Co-founder of Maia Mothers Collective + Postpartum Doula

Tell us about you – who is your family, where do you live?

I live in Brisbane with my Husband Ryan, 2 year old boy Archie impending our arrival for baby #2.

What got you into your current profession being a Postpartum Doula?

Becoming a Mother really highlighted how much (most) women prepare for birth, yet decide to “wing” their postpartum. We are often left isolated and alone with little to no support. Western culture doesn’t honor the fourth trimester like many other countries around the world. For example in India, women are massaged daily and often eat according to Ayurvedic traditions. Seeing the lack of support and “village” mothers have encouraged me to study and become a postpartum doula. To be with and support women truly fills my cup.

Why are you passionate about working with mothers?

After the birth of my son I have an indescribable, profound respect for mothers. I believe all mothers deserve to be nurtured, nourished and held.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I feel most grounded when I am outside so being at the beach, going for walks, pilates, reading and I also love love love cooking.

What is your one piece of advice for first time mothers?

REST as much as you can. Especially in those first 40 days.

Let your intuition guide you, you always know what's best for your baby.

The way your baby sleeps isn’t wrong or right. Cat naps are normal and sleep schedules aren’t a reflection of your parenting skills. You are doing amazing mama!
